It's a genuine movie that should be seen on Imax screens, thus it's a pity that Prey (2022) was released only via online streaming instead of traditional distribution. It is truly a thrilling experience to see it with the Native American dub. Trachtenberg, the director, is eager to show off with a grab-bag of modern visual ideas and sturdy action choreography, and it aligns perfectly with the survivalist sensibility of the first movie. This is a far cry from the unsettling sensations of the original work and John McTiernan's classic flourish. It is filled to the brim with ethereal pictures of forest vistas, and the soundtrack and sound design both add to the sensation of being immersed. The movie is carried by Amber Midthunder, who plays Naru, with a lead performance that is largely wordless. Her facial emotions and quick gestures set the pace and rhythms for the whole movie, from the opening scene all the way up to the climactic clash in the third act. How horrifying and gruesome! It's fantastic to see (mentioned here) the Predator making a significant comeback.
